The analysis undertaken and based on the results of former national census and results of 2000 census suggests:

in 2000 the degree of automobilization was 1:4.2 (the number of people to 1 passenger vehicle), motorization 1:3.8 (number of cars to 1 motor vehicle)

in past decade the highest progress was in passenger vehicle numbers, between 1985 and 1995 in 1,46x. By 2000 the growth was 1,80x.

The percentage of heavy vehicles in traffic flow compared to 1990 decreased from 35% to 23% in 1995 and 21.4% in 2000.
In comparisson of 2000 with 1990 the annual daily (24h) traffic intensity increased :
- in motorway network sieti diaľnic 1,6 x
- in I. class roads 1,39 x,
- in II. class roads 1,23 x,
- in III. class roads o 7 %.
The highest intensity of road traffic is on motorway routes and planned express roads along trunk roads in sections:
- from Bratislava in direction to Trenčín, Žilina, Ružomberok to Poprad (motorway D1 and roads I /61 and I/18);
- from Bratislava in direction to Nitra, Žiar n/Hronom, Zvolen to Detva (along trunk roads I/62, I/51, I/65 and I/50);
- between Zvolen and Banská Bystrica (I/66) and between Prešov and Košice (I/68)
- from Bratislava in direction to Malacky to Kúty (motorways D2 and roads I/2 )
